Past 2018 Events

Classics & Chips - Tuesday 17th April
The first outing of Haynes' new 2018 MY Mustang demonstrator proved a draw to many - with it being the sole 'modern' Mustang at the meet. Plenty of classic 'stangs were however on show, with a nice example of a fully restored 1967 Mustang  being the attention grabbing headline of Ford's performance range. Also attending the event was a car and family well known to Haynes through their connections with the Kent RS Owners group, an example of a black RS Cosworth that had passed its MOT that very same day !

Other classic Fords were also on display alongside other classic and retro manufacturer models, with lots of overheard musings and memories from the crowd of attendees, recalling scenarios where they had driven or travelled in a type of car like it. A number of classic bikes were also in attendance and photographers were enjoying the opportunity of taking shots of vehicles in the setting sun.

A beautiful evening for the first meet of the year with upwards of 100 models on display along the front of Minnis Bay and the area behind the restaurants. This drone shot posted onto the event's Facebook page shows the scale of attendees, with an added amount of cars parked in the area behind the restaurants.

Despite some protestations about the size of the event by some locals all in all this was a well organised event and allowed Haynes the opportunity of displaying their Mustang in front of owners and an audience that appreciated the cars on display. Many thanks to Thanet Classic Car Club for a hugely enjoyable evening meeting.

Motors by the Moat - Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th May
With hundreds of classic, vintage and performance cars on display, this was a fantastic opportunity for visitors and car enthusiasts to get up close to some of the world’s most famous motors. Vehicles were showcased on the Castle lawns, which provided a spectacular backdrop for photographs.

On the Haynes stand, we were displaying the Ford Focus RS Red Edition, a 2017 Mustang 5.0 V8 GT Convertible, the New Ford Transit Custom and Ford Ranger Wildtrak. Each drew significant interest over the weekend, where visitors could sit in and listen to the vehicles to get a taste for what owning one would be like. It was a great chance to showcase our new releases and raise awareness for these vehicles. Also, the Focus RS Red Edition gathered people’s attention due to there being only 300 manufactured, so it was exciting for them to have seen and experienced it for themselves. Our friendly and helpful staff were present on both days to answer any questions and chat about all things car related. The event was promoted via our social media account over the weekend to encourage users to pay a visit.

Over both days, there were parades and live stunt shows scheduled. Terry Grant, an international stunt driver and world record holder, kept everyone excited by performing nail-biting stunts in his 1937 Ford Sedan. The parades showcased Vintage Cars, Classic Cars and Performance Cars and crowds were drawn for these shows. It was a superb feature for Motors by the Moat.

By the castle itself, there were 7 Aston Martins lined up to demonstrate the progression from 1965 to 2007 and these cars were accompanied by a 1958 Bentley Mulliner S1 fastback. These vehicles all stood proudly in front of Leeds Castle with an incredible value of over £3 million for the collection. Passers-by could also see an impressive array of cars including a bright orange Lamborghini Diablo, a McLaren 675LT, Ferraris and even the Batmobile!

Overall, it was a fantastic, well organised weekend event for everyone including car enthusiasts, families, local car groups and more. Haynes Ford were delighted to be present as it is always a pleasure to chat with visitors and allow them to learn more about us. We hope to be in attendance next year.

Classics & Chips - Tuesday 15th May
Haynes Ford attended the second of the 2018 monthly meets hosted by the Thanet Classics Car Club on a beautiful evening at Minnis Bay with our eye catching 'Orange Fury' V8 Mustang demonstrator. The American icon drew much attention parked with the modern vehicles in the car park behind the restaurant while space along the promenade for the classic vehicles was at a premium.

With upwards of 200 cars and bikes on show each visitor walking along the prom could be overheard sharing their own personal favourite, with reminisces of vehicles owned or seen at previous shows. A good selection of VW Campervans, Vespa scooters, Jaguar E-types and several Sinclair C5s gave an eclectic mix of vehicles for the event.

Ford were well represented with several Mustangs and models through the years. A turquoise Ford Popular on show was a fantastic example of a restoration piece while Fiestas, Escorts and several Cosworths were also in attendance. Ford's American history was represented by several Mustangs, a fully restored black '67 Shelby drawing many envious glances.

Another good-natured and respectful meet from the Thanet Classics Car Club, providing a fantastic showcase for Kent's Classic car community and its fans.

Tour de Ford - Sunday 27th May
The Tour de Ford consisted of up to 90 cyclists taking part in a non-competitive ride, beginning and ending at the Haynes Ford dealership in Maidstone, Kent. Riders could choose between doing a 30 or 50 mile route at one of three speeds - 12, 15 or 18 mph, with guidance from a ride leader and a Ford Team Sky support vehicle.

Our Team Sky support vehicles were a Ford S-MAX, Ford Edge and Ford Kuga. These 3 vehicles had the appropriate, eye-catching decals on them, so that passers-by and participants would instantly recognise them as being associated with the event. We also wanted to have our own 'Team Haynes' vehicle, so that we had added our own touch to it. We had these decals applied onto a 2018 Mustang in Orange Fury, to ensure it grabbed attention on the day, as well as before and after the event.

Staff were onsite preparing before riders arrived, where we had over 150 bananas and bottles of water laid out for participants to have before they set off. Our Parts shop was also open for riders to purchase refreshments before and after the ride. Riders started to arrive from around 8.30am, where they had to go to the main showroom to check in and prepare for an event briefing. This was done by Sue Isles, who delivered a welcome speech, shortly passing over to a member of the Tour de Ford events team to brief the riders on the plan for the day. There was an excellent turnout of 60 riders on the day!

Our Tour de Ford participants departed from around 9.45am. The Team Haynes Mustang left first with the 50 mile groups, followed by the Team Sky Edge and Team Sky S-MAX, with the remaining groups following closely behind. Haynes staff were located around the site to capture photographs and videos of the cyclists as they prepared to leave. The route started in Maidstone and passed through many pleasant villages and lanes in the Kent countryside. The 50 mile route went through villages such as Langley, Ulcombe, Headcorn, Sissinghurst, Hawkhurst, Lamberhurst, Marden and Tovil, finishing back in Maidstone. The 30 mile route was the same, but cut across from Sissinghurst into Marden, instead of going through Benenden, Hawkhurst, etc.

Haynes Ford staff and the Tour de Ford Event team were awaiting the arrival of riders from about midday. Upon their return, participants were able to grab another banana and bottle of water, pick up their Team Sky goody bag and have their photo taken in front of the Ford & Team Sky Stats & Figures wall. The Team Sky goody bag consisted of a Team Sky water bottle, cap, pin badge, winners medal and a voucher code for Henri Lloyd Sport.

Following the event, we received highly positive feedback on Haynes social media. Participants informed us that it was a well-organised, enjoyable day with a great cycling route and some riders shared photos of themselves with our Team Haynes Mustang and Team Sky vehicles. It was excellent for Haynes to see how positive the day had been for the riders and we successfully met our objectives of raising awareness of our dealership whilst providing an enjoyable experience for all that took part. We will hopefully look to do this event again in the future!

American Speedfest - Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th June
The 2018 Haynes stand was again situated in the Traders area and this year was next door to Robinsons Foundry based in Canterbury. Kent’s Indian motorcycle dealer are well known to Haynes from working together at joint performance events and the fusion of both Performance Bikes and Performance Cars allowed photo opportunities for fans of both 2 and 4 wheels American cruising.

Haynes again had 5 vehicles on their stand, the Team Sky graphics providing an eye-catching S-Max and an MS-RT Ranger providing interest for our Commercial fans. Along the front of the stand a Triple orange V8 Mustang, resplendent with Team Haynes graphics sat alongside a Nitrous Blue RS Focus and a Q500 Mustang, loaned to us by Steeda UK. With no opportunity to provide the safety and course cars this year Haynes decided to increase exposure at the event by running a competition with visitors. Providing two ‘selfie frames’ and encouraging the use of the hashtag #TeamHaynes on social media the competition offered the chance of winning a Driving Experience around Brands Hatch. The Haynes staff team got behind this venture and spoke with many of the visitors, using the frames to engage with the customers and encourage sharing and liking of the companies Social Media channels.

Ford Public Affairs delivered a prototype of the new Ford Bullitt Mustang for display at Speedfest, housed under a Ford canopy by the public underpass to the track. Obviously this was the first time that the Haynes team themselves had been able to see the car and several of the team split their time between the Haynes stand and Bullitt to try and answer any of the visitors enquiries.

Aside from the headline NASCAR racing action there were other events during the Speedfest weekend to provide entertainment, from a foot-long hot dog eating competition, to a Live Action Arena hosted by American superbike star James Rispoli. Other highlights included dinosaur shows for the children, Optimus Prime and the Transformers, appearances from Star Wars characters walking the show, and live music, headlined by Californian band Lucky Tongue.
